Vestforbrænding Municipal Waste City

Vestforbrænding are the largest municipal waste company in Denmark. They operate a waste-to-energy incinerator that converts more than half a million tonnes of waste into power for up to 80,000 homes.

I was contacted by the company to produce a scene depicting their waste collection and recycling activities around the municipality. Working closely with the Vestforbrænding management, I toured the facility to take reference photographs and sketch a rough concept to align with their vision.

It was important that Vestforbrænding's company branding directed the colour aesthetic, so their striking grey, orange and teal palette was used throughout the scene.
Day zero: Preliminary sketch done on-site at the facility.
Day one: Simple architectural massing and urban layout.
Day fifteen: Final clay test render before material application.

Assorted close-ups of scene buildings and props.
Bonus alternate lighting setup. I really loved this more realistic tiny model vibe, but we eventually settled on single point hard lighting for better legibility. Although it looks great in clay grey, it wasn't so suited to the full colour final reproduction.
Thanks for watching!
